Tonight

• The Worship team will meet at the church at 6:00 pm.  All interested are welcomed to attend.

Tuesday

• Active Listeners will meet in the church library at 10:00 am
• The quilt and sew group will meet in fellowship hall at 1:00 pm.  If you have sewing and craft projects of just about any kind you are welcome to join us and bring your project.

Thursday

• UMW officers will meet at the church at 10:00 am
• The Board of Trustees will meet in the church library at 7:00 pm.

Next Sunday

• There will be a fireside worship service at 5:30 pm.

Robert Mumford will be coming back to direct our church choir.  Choir practice will begin on August 19th at 6:30 pm.  All are welcomed

For the month of August we are collecting peanut butter and/or jelly for Community House.  Bring your donation at any time and place it in “Jane Wagon”.

The Worth family is collecting school supplies (spiral notebooks, pencils, erasers and pencil bags) and will send them to their son Eric who in the U.S. Marines currently serving in Afghanistan.

Another opportunity to provide school supplies next week.  John Hemrich made the announcement in worship that on August 11 from 5:00-8:00 pm  Burgerville will donate 10% of their sales to purchase school supplies for local foster families.

• Trustees will meet at  7:00pm in the church library

Next Sunday the “Aloha Team” will host the coffee hour after worship.  I think we will be treated to some Hawaiian treats and the people who made the mission trip to Hawaii will tell us about their experiences and share their pictures. 

Have you signed up to attend the Spring Fling yet?  There is no form to fill out – just a $5.00 fee to cover transportation cost. There is lots of information in the newsletter and on the UMW bulletin board in the fellowship hall.

What a great event we experienced here Saturday evening!  If you missed the Medieval feast you really missed a lot!  There was lots of food, great music and entertainment and decorations.  I’m sure this will happen again some day and we should all try to attend.  This was a fund raiser for our Christian Education program.

• Disciple Bible study will meet in the Pastor’s office at 10:00 am  Don Christensen will teach both classes in Jerry’s absence
• Choir practice in the sanctuary at 6:30 pm

Wednesday through Friday

• Scout troop 516 will be setting up in the fellowship hall for their rummage sale.  They will be at the church each evening.

Saturday

• Troop 516 rummage sale.

Sunday

• We will begin the study “Claiming the Promise”.  The study will continue for 6 to 7 weeks.

We took 620 disposable diapers to Community house, these were collected in the month of April.   We will be collecting coffee creamer for the month of May.

We have another busy week ahead.

Monday

• Mission Team will meet at the church at 6:00 pm.  Anyone interested in the mission outreach of our church is welcomed to attend.
• Church Council will meet at the church at 7:00 pm.  Those holding leadership positions in the church are expected to attend – all who are interested in the life of the congregation are welcome to attend. 

Tuesday

• Quilt and Sew group meets in the fellowship hall at 1:00 pm.  Everyone is welcomed to join in.  Bring your project to work on while we visit.
• Disciple Bible study will not meet to night but instead will meet on Thursday.

Wednesday

• Disciple Bible study will meet in Pastor Jerry’s office at 10:00 am.
• Choir practice will meet in the sanctuary at 6:30 pm.

Thursday

• Women’s book group will meet at Barb and Niis’s home at 7:00 p m.  We will be discussing “The Healing Quilt”.  Next month the book is “Blink”.
• Disciple Bible will meet this week only, at Pastor Jerry’s home at 6:30 pm.

Saturday

• UMW district officer’s training is at Vancouver 1st UMC.  Meet at the church at 8:30 am to carpool.
• Medieval feast will be in the fellowship hall beginning at 5:30 pm.  If you haven’t yet purchased your tickets, call the church office to reserve your ticket.  Price is $12.50 per person.  Profits will go to fund our Christian Education program.

Sunday

• This is the last Sunday of the month and is our monthly potluck lunch.

Newsletter articles are due tomorrow.  Please email anything you would like to share in the newsletter to the church office.

A couple of other reminders about upcoming events.

• Spring cleaning days are March 28th for interior and April 4th for exterior.  A sign up sheet is available in the office for both days.
• Work day at Ocean Park Camp is also March 28th.  Let Gene(430-6881) know if you plan to go.  There is a project in Ye Old Dining Hall and Willis had promised other projects for any skill and ability level.  This is a great chance to make a difference at “our” camp and to experience the grounds before the busy camp season begins.
• Remember the “Tide Me Over” program is on going.  A list of needed foods is on the table with the food bags.  Anyone in need is welcome to take a bag of food (please return the cloth bag if you can).  There are envelopes on the table in which you may place a monetary donation.  Anything donated for the program will go directly to purchasing food for the bags.
• Ground coffee  is the item of the month for Community House.  Place your donation in the wagon at any time.

We have two events coming up right after Holy Week and Easter. 

• The United Methodist Women are sponsoring a Spring Tea on April 18th which will be a lovely catered meal.
• The Education Committee is sponsoring a Medieval Feast the following Saturday, April 25th.

It is almost newsletter time again!  Please get your articles to me by this Thursday March 19th.  Email is the easiest way for me to receive your articles, but I will accept them in whatever form works for you!

Take a look at the new sign up lists on the bulletin board across from the office.  You can sign up on the big list or the one on the clipboard.  They will be cross-checked.  Please note: No one is signed up for hosting coffee hour next Sunday.  You can contact the office by email or phone if you would like to provide this service on Sunday.

I must admit that I have been on the “sick list” for a while and have not been able to keep up with the things I need & want to do, but I’m back and doing my best to maintain a normal schedule!

Some of you are receiving this email for the first time. Thanks for sharing your email address with the church – it’s a great way to stay in touch. When things are working normally I send an email on Mondays to let people know what’s happening for the coming week & whatever interesting things I might have to share. Sometimes I will send information during the week. I try to respect your information by being sure not to include all the addresses in the heading. If anyone receiving this email wishes not to receive it, just reply saying that and I’ll remove you from the list.

It was great to hear the message from Devi Bhujel, missionary in Nepal in worship yesterday. The service was quiet different from what we are accustomed to having. It will be good to get back to a more “normal” service next Sunday!

Some meetings & events to keep on your schedule for the coming week:

• Tuesday Disciple Bible Study at Pastor Jerry’s home at 6:30 p.m.
• Wednesday Disciple Bible Study at the church at 10:00 a.m. UMW Edith Allen Circle meeting & potluck lunch at Fosburgs (4217 Pennsylvania St.) Any women of the church are welcome to attend! Choir practice in the sanctuary at 6:30 p.m.
• Saturday The much anticipated “Our Passion for Justice” is at Vancouver Heights UMC. Several from our church are pre-registered. It is possible to register “at the door” so you can still attend if you are not pre-registered. It is a very special program with Jim and Jean Stradthee. Those attending should meet at the church at 8:45 to carpool to Vancouver.

What beautiful weather we are having! It’s hard to believe that October begins this week, but we know it is true. I’m sure the more typical fall weather will be starting soon, but what a treat to be able to enjoy the sun & warm temperatures now.

It’s the start of a busy week here at the church. You may have noticed on the back of yesterday’s bulletin that there is something on the schedule every day this week!

• Tonight The UMVIM (United Methodist Volunteers in Mission) group meets at 7:00 p.m. to establish the dates for the 2009 Mission Trip to Hawaii. If you are interested in being part of this vital team be here tonight to help decide the dates for the trip.
• Tuesday As Jerry announced yesterday, the Disciple Bible Study won’t actually begin until next week. This is to give the students time to do their reading before starting the study. I know some of you got your study guides from Pastor Jerry yesterday. If you still need a book, contact Jerry.
• Wednesday The Social Justice Team will meet at 6:00 p.m. They have a few programs in the very near future. One is the discussion for the next two Sundays following worship service on the United Methodist Social Principles as they relate to the issues and candidates in the upcoming election. Another is the candidates forum that is scheduled for October 16th.
• Also on Wednesday: Choir practice begins at 6:30. This is a great time to join the choir! If you have ever considered being in the choir you should come down on Wednesday and give it a try!
• Thursday We will be providing greeter and usher training at 6:00 p.m. These people are vital to the health of our church since they are the first ones visitors see when they come to our church. Even if you have been an usher or greeter recently or in the past, come down to see if there is something new and exciting you should know!
• Also Thursday The Trustees meeting begins at 7:00 p.m.
• Friday The United Methodist Women meet at 10:45 a.m. Bring your own “brown bag” lunch for after the business meeting. All women connected to the church are welcome and encouraged to attend. UMW officers meet at 10:00 a.m. before the full meeting.
• Saturday Our UMW is hosting the first annual “Fall luncheon”. All church women are encouraged to attend and bring a friend! We do need a count of how many will attend, so please leave a message at the office of call UMW president Ann Ford if you plan to attend. We have a special guest speaker before the lunch: Leslie Bombardier from Community Health Partners will be the guest speaker. The meeting will begin in the sanctuary and lunch will be served in the fellowship hall.

If you were in the fellowship hall yesterday for the potluck you probably heard of several opportunities to sign up for service and attendance at events.

• List is available to sign up to host coffee hour, bring flowers and to usher Sunday’s through the end of the year. This list is available on the table near the entrance where the newsletter mailbox is located. If you would like to host coffee hour next Sunday, October 5th, please reply to this email indicating your interest.
• Our choir director, Kerrie Biehl has sheets to sign up to be part of a drama group that will give short presentations from time to time during the worship service. She also has a list to sign up to be part of the Christmas play she is planning and to provide special music during the worship services on Sundays when the choir is not singing.
• The other list I’m aware of is the one to indicate you will attend the Peace With Justice event at Vancouver Heights UMC on October 18th. This annual event is always well worth attending. This is the 5th year our District has presented the event. This year Jim Stradthee, well known Christian music composer and performer will be honored guest.

I want to offer a special invitation to any and all to attend the Sunday evening study at 7:00 p.m. Next Sunday’s title is “Why Me?” The video is moderated by Philip Yancey. It deals with why bad things happen to good people. It should be a great study. Many of you will remember studying books by Philip Yancey on Sundays evenings some years ago. Come join in on the discussion!
